The sound of hooves across the field

Always meant that you were home.

I miss the warmth beneath my hand,

The quiet way you understood

Now when I walk those fields alone,

I sometimes call your name,

Knowing I won’t hear your footsteps

Coming back to me again.

But when the evening sky grows still,

And stars begin to show,

I feel you somewhere close to me,

More than I’ll ever know.

I whisper softly to the night,
